Criminal minds bts ep 7x13 snake eyes

can we just take a moment to appreciate that Criminal Minds

a primetime tv show that to many people would seem unremarkable among the hordes of crime-solving thriller serials

includes among its main cast an “overweight” (non-thin) woman who is portrayed as attractive, brilliant, capable, empathetic, loving, useful, and not a perfect Mary Sue either

and an educated man of color whose roots include struggling against classism, racism, and abuse, who is portrayed as intelligent, emotionally mature and sensitive, capable, skilled at both action and strategy

and they have an ongoing flirtation that manages to illustrate both mutual respect and freedom of feeling

best part of the show tbh

And the thin women are, in no way, superior to Garcia.  JJ and Prentiss both admire and appreciate Garcia & her super amazing computer skills, and Garcia returns an admiration and respect for what JJ and Prentiss do.  I think Criminal Minds handles gender, mostly, pretty well.  The women are just as valuable to the team as the men are, even if the team leader is male.  The focus is on the team and what each individual brings to the team. 

The only problem I have, which you see along all procedural crime shows (cop, lawyer, or other), is the rather illegal, and occasionally unconstitutional, means of solving the case.
